Arcadis
As Arcadis’ workplace portfolio evolves, so does our relationship. Across Europe, we’re creating workplaces that bring consistency to a global brand while responding to the people, culture and character of each location. .
Arcadis
Our work together spans Arnhem, Amsterdam, Milan and Madrid, with the relationship continuing.
With every project, we’ve built a deeper understanding of Arcadis’ workplace standards, ambitions and ways of working, creating a strong foundation of trust and shared knowledge.
That continuity allows each new project to move forward with greater clarity. We know where consistency matters, where there’s space to flex and how to focus investment where it creates the most value. Intelligent reuse, adaptability and considered design provide a common thread across the portfolio, without imposing a fixed formula.
The result is an evolving workplace partnership built on shared principles, with each city creating its own expression of them.
Moving forward from where it all began
As the birthplace of Arcadis, Arnhem called for a workplace that could honour the company’s history while supporting a very different future.
Reducing the office from 50,000 sq ft to 13,000 sq ft meant every part of the new workplace needed to work harder. New breakout areas, collaboration zones and a concierge desk create greater choice within the smaller footprint, while meeting rooms and facilities are distributed across the building’s chevron-shaped floorplate to strengthen connection between teams.
Arcadis’ heritage is woven through the experience. Art, furniture and graphics celebrate the company’s roots, with timber slats creating gallery-like corridors for its collection while adding warmth and acoustic privacy. Dark timber, black finishes and touches of orange connect the space to the wider Arcadis design language.
Existing lockers were upcycled, materials reused where possible and the air-conditioning system upgraded without a complete refit.
The result does more with less: retaining a strong sense of history while creating a more efficient, adaptable workplace for what comes next.
Milanese character, circular thinking.
Moving to Milan’s Bicocca district gave Arcadis an opportunity to bring its workplace standards together with the city’s distinctive industrial and design heritage.
Across 7,500 sq ft, references to Milanese architecture and design from the 1960s to 1980s come through in custom finishes, colour and spatial branding. Eight meeting rooms sit alongside collaboration zones, phone booths and a wellness room, creating a varied environment within the open-plan workplace. Lighting and acoustics add another layer, supporting comfort and inclusivity throughout.
Circular thinking was central to the move. Around 90% of Arcadis’ existing furniture was retained, reducing the need for new pieces, while local sourcing informed further material and design decisions.
Rather than choosing between sustainability and experience, the project brings the two together. Familiar elements are given new relevance, while the influence of Milan creates a workplace with its own energy and identity.
Renew what works and elevate what matters.
In Madrid, the opportunity was to make intelligent use of the existing workplace while creating a more relevant experience for the team.
Existing walls and partitions were incorporated into the refreshed design, alongside around 80% of Arcadis’ existing furniture. New investment was focused where it could have the greatest impact, with a new tea point, separate breakout and reception creating clearer destinations across the workplace. Fifty desks are supported by focus rooms and alternative work settings, while a small lab, new kitchen and bespoke joinery respond to specific functional needs.
Madrid brings the energy through terracotta, green and blue accents, patterned carpets in soft greys and beiges and a localised mural. At the team points, handcrafted tile-effect joinery offers a contemporary nod to the city’s decorative tilework.
New and retained elements come together as one considered environment, refreshing the workplace without replacing what continues to perform.

Built on what comes before
From Arnhem to Milan and Madrid, every project starts from a different place. What connects them is the knowledge we’ve built together.
With each location, we understand more about Arcadis’ people, priorities and workplace standards. That shared experience helps us make decisions with greater confidence, retain what has value and focus change where it will have the greatest impact.
With projects spanning Arnhem, Amsterdam, Milan and Madrid, and our work together continuing into Berlin and Manchester, the relationship keeps evolving alongside Arcadis’ portfolio.
